One of the most popular features of Apple's iPhone is its high-resolution camera. This device allows people to essentially carry both a phone and a camera on them at all times, for those moments where we need to capture what is happening around us. While updates have been made to the iPhone over the years, the camera has more or less remained the same. Well this might not be the case any longer, according to new reports.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Apple a patent for interchangeable camera lenses for its smart phones. According to these reports, it is very possible - even likely - that future versions of the iPhone will have the built-in ability to swap out one camera lens for another. There will be options available just as there are for a normal camera, with wide-angle lenses available for landscape shots and macro lenses for a close-up angle.

While Apple is famously tight-lipped about any new developments with its many electronic devices, industry experts believe an interchangeable camera is the direction that Apple is going to move in, based on this patent, which includes sketches of an iPhone with a slightly protruding camera - a new design as iPhone cameras have been flat up until this point. The bayonet mount would likely be an adjustment for longtime Apple users, but this development will be a way for people to improve their mobile photos.
