On the fence between an Apple iPad Pro and a 12 inch MacBook Retina? How about a bit of both?

iPad Pro 12.9 inch

The 12.9 inch iPad Pro, unlike any previous model iPad, may be a bit too close to being a 2-in-1 MacBook, than Tim Cook himself realizes. The iPad Pro is bigger than the 12 inch MacBook Retina, and even with iOS alone, it accomplishes many tasks typical of a full-size laptop, with a processor to match. Even better, it can be used with a stylus, or your fingers, and each app can be scrolled through, up or down, independently and simultaneously.

Hardware manufacturers have been quick to jump on creating keyboards for the iPad Pro, in all shapes and sizes. Some are designed to protect the iPad Pro, others to make its battery last longer, and others focus solely on the typing experience, like the Razer mechanical keyboard for iPad Pro, which is the first of its kind, offering similar cherry switches as the ones found on gaming keyboards.

With that said, as many a keyboard available as there are, only a few really stick out for ease of use, quality and performance. Needless to say, it is most often a matter of price, and the best accessories do not come for cheap.

Aside from the gaming-oriented and very loud Razer mechanical keyboard, there are a number of great alternatives with a quieter profile, like the Logitech Create, whose best feature, aside from a decent keyboard, is the ability to store Apple Pencil together with the iPad Pro, when in clamshell folio mode. Still, if you are particularly picky about getting an experience as close to a MacBook keyboard as possible, the Logitech Create might not be for you, as much as the Brydge keyboard. Brydge keyboards are designed to replicate the same design of a MacBook keyboard down to using the same machine aluminum body, keys, and shape.

When folded, it’s hard to tell an iPad Pro from a MacBook, as the only clues are the thin mounts clipping the iPad to the base, and the absence of a trackpad. Other than that, once we fire a few apps like Microsoft Office for iOS, or Safari, the illusion is complete.

Brydge keyboard come in the three signature colors used by the iPad Pro: Silver, Space Grey, and Gold, and pair with the iPad via Bluetooth 3.0. The Brydge keyboard is also backlit, and offers three levels of brightness, that can be controlled via a top row of function keys very similar to those found on Chromebooks.
