The tech world has been buzzing recently with the anticipation of Apple's new iPhone potentially releasing this September. While the company has been making headlines recently for its developments and business decisions - such as the iWatch and acquisition of Beats headphones - a new report out has even more to add to the speculative furor.

According to Apple rumor website DigiTimes, Apple is preparing to release a thinner version of the popular Macbook Air sometime in the near future. Details are, of course, scarce at the moment, but the site reports that it will be available to the general public either by the very end of 2014 or sometime early next year.

It is believed by industry insiders that the thinner laptop will be coming out will be the long-rumored Retina Macbook Air. It is expected that this new version will feature a new high-resolution, 12-inch screen and a state-of-the-art buttonless trackpad mouse.

In addition to speculating on the future of the Macbook Air, the report also indicates that it is soon to be the end of the road for another popular Apple device - the 13.3-inch Macbook Pro. The current model is expected to be retired from production by the end of this year, to be replaced entirely by the newer Macbook Pro with a Retina display.
