This week, Apple filed a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a new version of the cameras that are built into the iPhone and iPad. The upgrade would allow users to take super-resolution photographs, improving upon the already impressive camera abilities in the existing generations of Apple's electronics.

The new iPhones - rumored to be starting with the iPhone 6, widely expected to be released sometime this fall - would be able to produce these high-definition photographs by using optical image stabilization (OIS) and burst-mode photos. This would allow images to be produced that would exceed the existing megapixel limits of the iPhone's camera.

The two features would work together to create better pictures in a multi-step method. The burst-mode of the camera would allow the iPhone or iPad to take multiple versions of the same image at the same time, only slightly altered as the seconds pass. The device would then stitch the photographs together to create the best possible version of the photo.

The biggest advantage that this new system would offer is the elimination of the shaky effect that sometimes plagues those who use their iPhone cameras. With this stabilization technology, a person would be able to hold their device and take the picture without having to worry about their hand moving and ruining the shot. Everything will come out clearer and much easier.
