As iPhone users know, personal assistant Siri has been available with all system updates since 2011. While the feature has proven to be massively popular among consumers, it has so far been limited to Apple's smartphones, having not made the jump to the Macbook Pro or Macbook Air through any OS advancements. But according to a new patent the company filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday, August 7, that could all change in the near future.

All Apple iMac devices currently come with a voice command feature, but this has been mostly limited to only certain aspects of what the computer can do. The nearly 100-page patent filing is for what the tech giant calls an "intelligent digital assistant in a desktop environment." While no further details have been released by Apple, 9to5Mac reports that this will essentially be a Siri for Mac, finally bringing this popular feature to Apple's line of desktops and laptops.

The current version of Siri is able to process and respond to natural speech and text from users, as well as input and retrieve data and conduct searches. The patent says that all of these features will be available in the Mac version of Siri. Additionally, like it's iPhone counterpart, Siri for Mac can either run in the background or be up in front while being used. The Siri for Mac will have a special icon to allow each user to know that it has been activated.

While this technology is still being developed, investing in a new Apple product is a worthwhile long-term investment. If you are in the market for a new Apple device, be sure to shop with PortableOne today!
