According to a new patent that was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple might be developing all-glass versions of the iPhone and Apple TV. While it is not currently known whether or not such products will actually make their way to the general consumer in the future, the patent has detailed a new process the tech giant has worked on in order to create an aesthetically pleasing - and durable - new line of all-glass products.

The new patent was granted to Apple at the beginning of last week. It details how glass can be seamlessly fused together in order to create a housing unit for all of the internal components of iPhones and iPads that looks sleek. While Apple has noted in the past that all-glass devices can be heavy, particularly if the material has multiple layers for stronger scratch protection, the new fusing method would ensure both a lightweight design and durability.

The edges of the planar and peripheral glass can be fused together around the sides before being machined down to create the shape of the device, whether it be a television or smartphone. The patent talks about how there would be two distinct ways for the company to go with the design - either the glass could be left completely transparent to show the internal mechanisms, or it could be tinted to give it the look of a regular iPhone. Both options are left open in the patent.
