Although the concept and implementation of digital currency has attracted some controversy in the recent past, Apple has updated its guidelines for the popular app store, approving the sale of a bitcoin app. The feature, which is known as Coin Pocket, is the first bitcoin wallet app that has been put up for sale in newest version of the iOS store, allowing users to both send and receive the virtual money.

There have been a few bitcoin apps that have been sold in the app store in the past - such as Coinbase and Blockchain - but those had both gone months without receiving any updates before ultimately being pulled from the store. This was before Apple updated its company policy that would allow the use of only "approved" digital currencies, both accepting them as forms of payment and allowing them to be used in the iOS market.

Because the tech company had a tendency to turn down any virtual currency apps that were designed for the app store, there will likely now be an outpouring of features, as long as they adhere to Apple's new guidelines. Apple has such a significant market share with their iOS store, meaning that developers will be racing to create the best possible updates to bring up for approval. Bitcoin and all of its related apps are going to be a strong part of Apple's future.
