According to a new report from the website MacRumors, Apple is planning on launching an updated version of their popular Macbook Air with several significant changes made to its design. The Air will now have a 12-inch retina display, a solid trackpad and not include a fan.The trackpad will also not have a mechanical button as the current model does.

The reports of the redesign first surfaced in international tech forums before being picked up and verified by industry experts. Although the Macbook Air is currently the thinnest computer that Apple produces, the information indicates that it will be made even slimmer, which is why the original model's exhaust fan is being cut out for space.

Apple hopes to highlight the Macbook Air's functionality as a computer while also boasting its ultra-portable design with this new version. An analyst report that first came out in October 2013 stated that a 12-inch version of the Air would have the productivity of a 13-inch model Macbook Pro, while also being just as easy to move as the current 11-inch version of the Macbook Air. This report from last fall has since been backed up by these newest rumors.

MacRumor?s said that Apple will announce the new version of the Macbook Air in the very near future, before the company updates the Macbook Pro line this fall. The announcement of the Macbook Pro is expected to take place in September, which has many analysts and industry insiders believing the newest version of the Air will be released to the public this summer.
