With the record-setting sales of the iPhone 6, Apple is currently enjoying a wave of critical and commercial success. While the tech giant's next big thing - the Apple Watch - won't be officially released until sometime in early 2015, new reports are saying that the company is not quite done with its new product lines for this year.

According to industry insiders, Apple is working on an event to unveil the second iteration of the iPad Air. Previous rumors claimed that Tim Cook would once again be taking the stage on October 21. While that date has not been commented on by representatives for Apple, the consensus among industry circles is that the announcement will be made sometime in October.

There have been leaks across the internet over the last few weeks as to what the iPad Air 2 would include, with some saying the new tablet will be thinner, include a built-in Touch ID security system and sport twice as much the RAM space as the current model. Internally, it would function much the same way as the new iPhone 6 does.

The iPad mini, according to reports, would be the next in line to see an update after the iPad Air. There have been no dates mentioned in association with that upgrade by Apple as of yet, but it could come soon after the iPad Air 2 is on the market.
