We've all been there: your lunch break is almost over, and you come across one of those long-form articles in Sports Illustrated or Time Magazine that you'd love to read, but can't in your remaining five minutes of freedom. You could bookmark it, but what if you see it on your computer at work and it doesn't sync it to your browser at home? Or maybe you saw it at the office but want to peruse the article later on your Apple iPad or iPhone?

There are a couple of apps, available on multiple platforms, including OSX, iOS, Windows and Android, that have effectively eliminated this problem. Now, with the following programs, you can save those articles, along with virtually any other reading material on the internet, and read them later when you're lounging on the couch after work.

  • Instapaper: This service offers the ability to save articles for later and read them later on mobile devices and other computers. After registering a free account with Instapaper's website, the service adds a button (conveniently labeled "Read Later") to the bookmarks bar of the browser. Any time the user comes across a page they'd like to save for later reading, they simply click that button and the URL of that site will be added to a list. It can then be read at any time in an uncluttered, simple format that leaves out any pop-up advertising. Instapaper offers mobile apps on Android and iOS so that articles can be read later on tablets and phones with those operating systems.
  • Readability: Very similar to Instapaper, Readability has the benefit of being a free,cross-platform service that cleans up articles and presents them in an elegant format similar to e-books.

One of the benefits of buying an Apple iPad or iPad mini from Portable One is the ability to take advantage of apps like these that make life easier both in the workplace and at home. Contact us today to find out what tablet options are available.
