Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14366: this is (almost) it.

Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14366

Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary Update seems to be well on its way, as Microsoft releases previews with longer lists of bug fixes and shorter lists of new features being implemented.

Microsoft Edge

In the latest build, released to fast ring insiders, Microsoft Edge extensions have been added, with support for editing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Sway documents online, without having to install Microsoft Office, as long as the files are being stored on OneDrive, or OneDrive for Business.

Another issue that has been handled in this release, is Microsoft Edge causing high CPU usage when displaying web pages with large numbers of animated GIFs.

International users

Among some of the most notable fixes, internationalization for French users has been fixed, with system wide text no longer reverting from French to English. Also with regard to Chinese and Portuguese(Brazil) users, Start will launch without glitches. Finally, Japanese IME text prediction will no longer freeze the PC.

UI fixes

Several improvements have been made to how applications and the interface looks, including display scaling, the Start menu, and the notification center, as well as Windows Ink, where the inclination of the ruler can now be controlled using scrollbars from all pointing devices, including previously unsupported mice and trackpads.

What we might not see in the Anniversary update, but could come in the future

Cortana has suddenly become a hot-button issue for users, especially after WWDC, where Apple Siri has demonstrated some formidable features that have effectively left Cortana in a trail of dust. By this token, we can only assume that Microsoft will be working on an array of Cortana improvements, which might include a rethinking of Cortana’s search box, with support for contextual search results, as well as a much tighter integration with desktop apps, like Microsoft Office.
