Wacom steps up its game with Windows 10 powered professional pen tablets

Wacom MobileStudio rival Microsoft Surface tablets

Wacom has taken a few hits since the inception of 2-in-1 hybrid devices like Microsoft Surface Pro and Apple iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. Some creative studios such as Disney Pixar have even given the thumbs up to Apple’s 12.9 inch tablet as a valuable replacement of many of Wacom’s tablets.

Finally, Wacom has decided to fight back, and provide professional customers and companies with a new range of products to meet the requirements of creatives and designers who may be tempted to opt for a more lightweight, wireless solution, instead of staying tethered to a desktop workstation.

Of all places where Wacom could have made its announcement, New York Comic Con is perhaps one of the least expected, but nevertheless the most appropriate, as many CAD, 2D and 3D artists are known to gather at the venue, many of whom directly connected to franchises known to have a particular need for high-end graphic equipment, such as Marvel, and DC Comics.

Wacom tablets like Cintiq and Intuos are among the most precise and advanced in the industry, but not exactly the most mobile, as some Cintiq tablets require the user to be permanently tethered to a computer.

Wacom’s upcoming “Mobile Computers” on the other hand are a breed of hybrid tablet that may work by itself, untethered, or connected to a PC or a Mac, as an external display, in the same way as any traditional Wacom LCD tablet, with many sporting a 3D camera.

The new devices, under the product definitions of “MobileStudio” and “Pro Line”, feature two sizes, 13.3 inches, and 15.6 inches, between 64GB and 512GB of SSD storage, and can run a full version of Adobe Creative Cloud.

With a price tag starting at $1499, it goes without saying that these devices are not for the regular consumer looking to play Candy Crush, especially as they all feature 4K resolution.
