This nifty dock turns your MacBook into a desktop tower

This nifty dock turns your MacBook into a desktop tower

Designer and manufacturer Henge Docks has made a name for itself, for making some rather impressive docks for Mac laptops and desktops, as well as mobile devices, designed to seamlessly blend with Apple’s unique design.

This time, Henge Docks has come up with a vertical version of its dock, which turns a wide array of MacBook laptops into desktop towers.

The line of vertical docks covers almost every current MacBook, including the latest 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pro, the 12 inch MacBook Retina, the MacBook Air, and surprisingly, even the 2006 MacBook Version A and B, with a case matching the white plastic of the vintage MacBook.

The concept is bafflingly simple. Each dock is designed to house the corresponding MacBook, just by sliding the laptop into the slot, right into the appropriate ports, using the device’s weight to lock the laptop into position, securely, and avoid damaging ports from continuous plugging/unplugging.

Each dock features a wide array of ports, enough to cover every possible requirement of power, connectivity and expandability, including the ability to connect to multiple external displays, which is a given, considering that this dock requires MacBooks to operate in clamshell mode.

Needless to say, the dock is designed to work with many different external displays, including the now discontinued Apple Thunderbolt Display, as well as many 4K, 5K monitors.

The real advantage of this dock, however, comes in terms of desktop real estate. The thin design, and the upright position allows any MacBook laptop to occupy as little space as possible, leaving more room for accessories, and other items.

When using a wireless keyboard and wireless pointing device, this dock allows to connect a MacBook to any HDTV, and turn it into the perfect multimedia hub, with a profile that conceals very well among books, and other living room objects, just like any other furniture item.

Each dock retails at around $60-$80, depending on which compatible MacBook model, and the build seems rather solid and durable, with a stand that allows any MacBook to stand without tipping over, and with ports located towards the bottom, to add stability to the unit, making this dock one of the most useful and best designed we have seen so far.
