The Apple iPad Pro is about to become the second thinnest Apple device ever

Apple Bag will be thinner and lighter than iPad Pro

According to a patent application filed by Apple and published last Thursday, Apple’s obsession for ultra-thin devices is expected to hit its thinnest point yet.

The device described in patent 20160264304, is unlikely to feature a touchscreen, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, or surprisingly, a USB Type-C port, and a Retina display will not be an option. The good news is that it will not require a battery either.

Meet the Bag

After the Apple Watch and the Apple Pencil, it is only a matter of time for the Apple Bag to reach consumers. What we can expect from this device is a number of improvements that leave any comparable paper bag in a trail of dust.

According to the patent drawings, the Apple Bag will be at least 1/10th the thickness of an Apple iPad Pro, 80% lighter, and made from 60% recycled materials.

The design also includes 6.5mm, 8-stitch circular knit pattern paper handles that fold 180 degrees on each side of the Apple Bag. Reading further down the abstract of this patent, it also seems that Apple has dedicated a fair amount of time developing a technology that allows the device to fold completely flat, while still being capable of hosting a full-size MacBook, and perhaps even an iMac, if we ever see a 21 or 27 inch Apple Bag Pro iteration in the future.

Apple Bag will be one tenth thinner and lighter than the 12.9 inch iPad Pro

One of the most important innovations yet, with regard of this device, is pencil, pen, and marker support. The device can be used as a drawing media, much like the iPad Pro, when paired with any size and color ball-point pen, graphite pencil, paintbrush, or marker felt pen, with the only downside of being unable to transfer the resulting images onto another device or medium, due to it lacking any kind of wired, or wireless hardware connectivity. Furthermore, the Apple Bag will not support the Apple Pencil, at least for the time being.

Is it too early for the Apple Bag?

In the wake of Apple’s tough decision of doing away with the 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7, it would make sense to question whether consumers are ready for an Apple Bag. Apple has not released any further particulars on the Apple Bag, but it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to speculate on a possible unveiling at the next big Mac announcement.
