Tesla Motors new Apple iWatch app lets you control your electric car

Since the release of WatchKit last November, developers have jumped at the opportunity to create amazing apps for the upcoming Apple Watch. App developer, Eleks Labs has created an early Apple Watch application, for Electric car company Tesla Motors, to enable owners of Tesla vehicles to control many aspects of their experience, on and off the wheel.

Eleks Labs was able to implement powerful functionality into its app, which lets owners lock and unlock their vehicles, control temperature, track the vehicle location, open and close roof and windows, check charge status, and even set the charging limit.

Eleks Labs has also noted a number of limitations of WatchKit, such as the inability to access accelerometer and gyroscope controls, as well as push notifications, while GPS requires a paired iPhone to function, as well as other features, like Bluetooth.

It’s worth noting, as Elek Labs stated, that the Apple Watch is yet to be released, and limitations in WatchKit are to be expected at this stage.

The Apple Watch is expected to be released in April, by which time WatchKit should reach a much higher state of maturity as an SDK.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been also urging a number of high profile developers to have apps ready for inclusion in the App Store by mid-February, as Apple has been boosting field tests of the Apple Watch, according to reports of numerous public sightings of the device.
