Sapphire glass supply confirmed for Apple iPhone 6 and iWatch

GT Advanced Technologies has finally confirmed sufficient supply of Sapphire glass to manufacture screens for both the iPhone 6, in both 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch models, as well as the iWatch, which was initially believed by analysts as being the device Apple would settle for as the recipient of Sapphire screens, should production fall short.

Luckily such wasn’t the case for GTAT. The Mesa facility exceeded expectations, reporting potential for producing as many as 200 million Sapphire glass cover units per year, according to new information gathered by Seeking Alpha’s Matt Margolis.

Production is expected to commence as soon as Apple settles the prepayment to GTAT by this month.

One concern surrounding the release of the 5.5 inch version of the iPhone 6, is a somewhat higher price tag for the device, which has lead analysts to believe it could be a factor deterring users to invest in an Apple “phablet”. The concerns were countered by financial investment company The Motley Fool, reporting markets willing to invest in the device regardless of the increased price.

Exclusive footage posted on 9to5 Mac solidifies the reports. The iPhone 6 will also feature an improved LTE chipset, as well as a built-in barometer for improved weather detection and relative altitude of the device.
