Missing the MagSafe connector on your new MacBook Pro? Here’s a brilliant replacement.

KickStarter company MagNeo isn’t the first one to build a replacement for the MagSafe connector, which Apple has eliminated across all MacBook laptops, including the latest MacBook Pros.

With that said, the new MagNeo adapter is the only one capable of driving 5K external displays, and high-speed data, thanks through a proprietary 20-pin magnetic connector within an aluminum shell, created specifically to handle higher power input-output required by 5K displays, as well as the ability to fast-charge a MacBook Pro.

Just as it happened with the 2015 12 inch MacBook Retina, some owners of the new MacBook Pro, have commented on the fact that those who are used to the MagSafe connector may risk triipping over the new USB Type-C charging cable, because they expect it to detach as easily as the one on their older MacBooks.

In hindsight, the MagSafe connector was a brilliant concept, as it provided a great solution to a number of drawbacks of a traditional laptop charger.

Most modern laptops still use traditional pin connectors that tend to get loose over time, let alone add to the wear and tear of the wire, by forcing the cord to continually bend and twist. By detaching automatically, the MagSafe connector on previous MacBook generations was designed to prevent wear and tear of the cable, and kept the laptop from being dragged off along with the cable, should anybody trip on it.

Just like the original MagSafe connector, MagNeo automatically plugs in the magnetized USB Type-C adapter, and it’s reversible, but the greatest thing about this new accessory is that it’s not just for Macs. In fact, any laptop designed to charge, os connect to peripherals through a USB Type-C port can be used with MagNeo, pending a few caveats.

One such caveat, as obvious as it may sound, is that just because MagNeo can handle 5K throughput and high-speed data, if you laptop isn’t capable of handling that, MagNeo isn’t going to be much help.

To enter production, MagNeo needs to rise at least $35,000, by January 27th, with early bird special bids between $29 and $35, with a final retail price yet to be announced at the time of this writing.
