Microsoft Windows 10 for Phones is almost ready for prime time

With the Mobile Summit at Cavallo Point in Sausalito less than two weeks away, Microsoft is ramping up development of its mobile version of Windows 10. From the latest leaked screenshots, the feeling is that Microsoft is fully intent on delivering on its promise to create a seamless experience from desktop to mobile, with a consistent interface and user experience, as much as the very nature of smartphones allows.

In an recent but earlier screenshot reportedly sourced by a Twitter user, Windows 10 for phones is likely to perpetuate a sleek tile-based interface, with extensive use of negative colors (brighter colors used for fonts, over darker background), which gives Windows 10 phones a distinctive look.

In the most recent screenshots we can see far more details of the home screen, featuring transparent tiles, over a high resolution background.

The same theme is featured in the contacts (Managing Contacts in Windows 10?) app, which we can only assume is expected to synchronize automatically across all devices.

The keyboard has been revamped, featuring one-handed typing that can be set for either left handed or right handed users.

Voice dictation will also be part of the experience across most apps.

On Windows 10 for Phones, voice recording will take place in a separate app, although it’s unlikely that Microsoft will allow users to use the app during phone conversations.

While it might seem odd that OneNote’s role as default app for voice notes will be downsized, it makes sense if we think in terms of user experience.

Cortana’s integration resembles almost identically its desktop iteration, featuring cards reporting information according to what Cortana learns from its individual user across all registered devices.

As promised, the Xbox app will also be integrated in Windows 10 for phones. The Xbox ecosystem is expected to further its development and integration in the Windows 10 ecosystem. Windows 10 phones are expected to integrate 8-core processors and improved GPUs, which is an indication of Microsoft ongoing effort in creating a truly seamless experience between desktop and mobile, without compromises..
