Looking for a new laptop with Windows Hello? Here is a short list of the best ones

Best laptops using Microsoft Windows Hello

Windows Hello is the built-in security layer that allows Windows 10 PC owners to setup and enable biometric recognition, to unlock PCs using your fingerprints, your eye, or your face.

Windows Hello supports image recognition hardware like Intel RealSense 3D cameras, and any number of fingerprint and iris scanners available for purchase.

While third-party options to enable your existing laptop or desktop to unlock using your eyes, face or fingers, are multiplying, if you are in the market for a new Windows 10 laptop, there are a number of great devices that come with built-in biometric hardware. Let’s take a look at a selection of the best ones currently available:

Lenovo ThinkPad T460

Lenovo ThinkPad T460

The ThinkPad T460 is a well-crafted 14 inch windows 10 laptop, powered by a 2.4GHz Skylake CPU, which means that Windows 10 can use many built-in hardware based security features, to aid Windows Hello in keeping the laptop safe. The type of fingerprint reader that comes with the T460, requires the user to swipe a finger over a thin strip on the right side of the keyboard. While it may be a less orthodox method to use a fingerprint reader, it does provide a better level of security, because it doesn’t allow fingerprints to leave a recognizable trace on the sensor, in case anybody tries to lift prints right off the laptop itself using powder and scotch tape.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Much like the T640, the X1 Carbon is powered by a Skylake CPU, only more powerful, clocking in at 2.6GHz, with a 3.4GHz Turbo Boost. The X1 has therefore access to the same, or better hardware-based security redundancies and resources, such as TPM 2.0 and BitLocker.

The fingerprint reader on this model is the regular, static version. It’s not the first time for Lenovo to implement a fingerprint reader on the X1 Carbon, with previous models supporting the technology since before Windows 10 came into existence.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 & Microsoft Surface Pro 3

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 & Microsoft Surface Pro 3

Both Microsoft flagship Surface Pro tablets share compatibility with all Surface Type Covers available, including the model that integrates a fingerprint reader. This Type Cover was first introduced last year, and it works with Windows Hello by default, if enabled through the Settings app in Windows 10.
