AltConf has Apple's blessing to stream WWDC 2015

AltConf, a “...free, community-driven and supported event, held in downtown San Francisco alongside Apple's WWDC...” has caught Apple’s legal team’s attention, for a brief period of time, in which AltConf was believed to be in breach of Apple’s terms in regard to live broadcasting of its keynote events.

Apple allows AltConf to stream WWDC 2015

The controversy began with a series of letters from Apple to AltConf, while under the impression that AltConf would charge a fee for attending the event. Because the event’s schedule will include a live stream from the WWDC event on June 8th. Charging for an attendance fee would constitute AltConf effectively using Apple’s live stream and content, for the scope of gaining profit, which is not only against Apple’s terms, but it’s a widely applied rule for all content broadcasting.

The misunderstanding was recently settled between Apple and AltConf, as AltConf clarified that tickets for the event are merely for the scope of event registration, and can be had at no charge.

AltConf organizer Rob Elkin told 9to5Mac “...We’re really happy that we can resolve this for the benefit of the community. It’s the best thing for everyone involved, and we hope we can add some brilliant content and add to the community during the week just like Apple does with WWDC”.

Much like other Apple keynote events, WWDC will be available primarily to Apple users, however audiences interested in following the event using other devices and operating systems, will have a harder time, without alternative sources like AltConf, providing a window into future Apple events.
