As December comes to a close, people everywhere are taking stock of the year behind them while preparing for the start of 2013. And some of our favorite moments of the year came from Apple.

The company launched a number of new and innovative products, gave impressive remodels to much of its hardware and software and reached a new market cap that made it the most valuable company in the world. It's hard to imagine how things could be much better in Cupertino.

Here are Apple's top four releases this year:

1. The Retina MacBook Pro - When it released the 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display, the tech community was dazzled. The laptop is thinner, sleeker and more beautiful than ever, but it also has internal updates that make it a real workhorse. And when Apple released the 13-inch model this fall, everyone was thrilled.

2. Mountain Lion - The newest version of OS X, Mountain Lion, caused a stir on the scene too. This operating system is as beautiful as it is powerful, and contains a lot of convenient integration with iOS 6.

3. The new iMac - The new, ultra-thin iMac is truly amazing to look at. And the super-fast Fusion drive gives it a ton of reliable storage. Apple broke barriers of design and technology with this update.

4. The iPad mini - Undoubtedly the most popular gift of the Christmas season, Apple was able to make a 7.9-inch iPad that includes all of the interaction and fun of the full-sized version, at a more portable size and more affordable price.

These awesome achievements helped to make this one of the best years that the company has ever had.
