In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple CEO Tim Cook made a big announcement. According to reports, Apple will begin manufacturing Macs in the United States next year.

Until the late 1990s, Apple assembled a number of products in the United States, but moved production to Asia in order to take advantage of the lower labor costs overseas. But after the iPhone, iPad and iPad mini have helped to solidify Apple as the most valuable company in the world, the executives in Cupertino decided that it was time to bring some jobs home.

Cook was also careful to mention that many of the parts for the iPhone and iPad are already constructed in the United States, including their special display glass.

But since the company is based in California, Cook said that many of the higher-ups at Apple thought it would be a good idea to move some of the production to the U.S.

"I don't think we have a responsibility to create a certain kind of job," Cook told the source. "But I think we do have a responsibility to create jobs."

In addition to moving some manufacturing stateside, the company has plans to open a new campus in Austin, Texas, and two new data centers. Cook will further discuss Apple's commitment to creating American jobs in an interview with Brian Williams on NBC's Rock Center on December 6.

This news is great for anyone who is in the market for a custom laptop from Apple. Not only will you be getting some of the best and fastest technology on the market, but you'll be supporting American jobs in doing so as well.
