It used to seem like something straight out of science fiction - an entire house that could be controlled by the touch of a button. Although advancements in technology have come very far in the past decade or so, no major tech manufacturer has attempted to create a platform that would allow homeowners to adjust the settings in their household with an electronic device. Well, according to a new report from the Financial Times, Apple is preparing to unveil such a system for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that is going to be held next week.

The WWDC is a tech trade show where Apple demonstrates some of the new devices and operating systems that it is developing for public consumption. This year's event will be held from June 2-6. The new "smart home" system that the company is working on would turn all of its iOS electronics - everything from the iPhone to the iPad - into a potential remote control for their owner's homes. This would include light adjustment, security systems and any other connected appliances.

The Financial Times report says that this operating system is going to be built into future devices for a central location, rather than spreading it out among third party apps. While it will initially be shown off with just the iPhone and iPad, the piece says that the "smart home" platform will be a part of the Apple TV hardware update that is coming at some point later this year. It might appear to be something straight out of the movies, but Apple is trying to make our lives that much more connected and convenient.
