With the much-discussed time of tablet supremacy upon us, many technology analysts are predicting that computing has entered the so-called "post-PC-era" and that high-functioning tablets like the iPad will soon replace our need for personal computers altogether. Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo's CEO Yang Yuanqing has other ideas.

While he acknowledges that the mobile tablet sector of the market is certainly gaining more importance, Yang says he doesn't see what this development has to do with the personal computer. In an interview with Fortune magazine published Monday, Yang indicated that he feels that tablets will become important niche devices, doing certain functions extremely well and leaving the rest of computing to PCs. Computers will end up having larger screens, and will complete several tasks simply not made for smartphones or tablets, Yang says.

John Kirk of industry analysis website Tech.pinions made a similar argument a few weeks ago in his essay titled "The iPad Put a Fork in Personal Computing." In it, he points out that the fork was not always a widely used eating utensil. For a long time, people made due with a knife and a spoon. Kirk argues that tablets won't replace personal computers, but instead they will be used for certain dedicated functions.

While the market is characteristically volatile in terms of personal computers, the analysts from Lenovo appear to be better at predicting industry trends than their counterparts from other companies. Last year alone, the Chinese PC maker increased market share from 9 percent to 15 percent, giving revenue a huge bump. CEO Yang decided to share the benefits of the company's good fortune by giving $3 million of his bonus to junior-level Lenovo workers.
