iOS 8 not so secret features

iOS 8 is full of surprises, some we already know, others we’ll learn along the way, and some might just downright surprise us.

Rethink the iOS 8 Camera

Timelapse is available in iOS 8, allowing users to compose a series of multiple images. Exposure can be adjusted before taking a new picture, and a default 3, or 10 second timer is available.

Credit card forms in Safari

Tired of typing in all those numbers and codes? Let Safari do the work by scanning your credit card and autofill payment forms easily.

New and old image finder

iOS 8 finally allows users to hide newly taken images from the Years and Moments collection app, while providing a view for recently deleted or hidden images.

Battery usage stats

OSX users may already be familiar with the Maverick’s battery usage meter. A similar feature will be part of iOS 8 as well, providing detailed info on every app installed on iOS 8 supported devices.

Location based apps display on locked screen

A boon for both users and businesses: iOS 8 locked screen displays local business apps and information on proximity, including apps that have not been downloaded on the device.

Auto delete text messages

iOS 8 allows to set automatic deletion of text messages after 30 days or on a yearly basis.

A smarter Siri

Siri responds to voice commands preceded by “Hey Siri”, by default with an always-on feature similar to Google’s “OK Google”, displays users questions in real time, and can download and install apps.

Phone calls over WiFi

iOS 8 users will save on the phone bill by making calls using available WiFi connection. T-Mobile has announced it’s ready to support the feature.

iOS 8 is slated to be available this Fall. See Apple iOS8 official page for a complete list of upcoming features.
