What to expect at this Spring's Apple iPad Pro event

Apple’s first big event of 2017 is expected to take place this March, with a specific focus on the iPad Pro, according to Japanese blog Macotakara.

The blog, which has enjoyed a fairly consistent rate of accuracy concerning Apple, alleges that the company will unveil a new, previously leaked 10.5 inch iPad Pro, alongside a second generation 12.9 inch, and 9.7 inch iPad Pro by the end of March. Macotakara also states that the new iPad models will begin to ship as soon as May. the rumor seems to have originated from an unnamed analyst at Barclays.

From the same source, Macotakara seems to have gathered word of a new iPhone SE, with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage.

Also, a red variant of the iPHone 7 and 7 Plus is predicted to reach consumers sometime this year, although it is unclear whether the new color will be a limited edition related to a new run of Apple Product Red, which is an initiative to raise awareness and contributions towards AIDS research.

In regard to the iPad Pro, there seems to be conflicting rumors. Digitimes seems to believe that a second generation 12.9 inch iPad Pro is not in the cards, at least for a March event, citing processors production issues, by which token, only the 9.7 inch version might be unveiled.

This latter rumor seems to be backed by Apple shipping schedule, which shows a two-three weeks waiting period for the current 12.9 inch version of the iPad Pro, and no delay for the 9.7 inch version.

Edge-to-edge display and the omission of the home button have been hot topics in the latest takes on what the new iPad Pro will look like, and the going theory is that we might see a 9.7 inch iPad Pro with such touch screen coverage, except for the top part, requiring a little area for the iSight camera. Still, Barclays Research seems to think that the camera, as well as Touch-ID will also be built into the display, which might get close and closer to Joni Ive’s aspiration to design iOS devices as “one single slate of glass”.

Apple Pencil 2 is also expected to be announced alongside the new iPad models, although not much is known in regard to specs or design.
