The many faces of Apple iWatch

Since Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, we have talked about what iWatch is, isn’t, should and shouldn’t be, but never before we had as much information, finally pouring in, about this device, even if the details on what it actually will look like are still a little unclear.

As the Wall Street Journal reports today, Apple will build several versions of the device, each with somewhat different specs, including screen sizes, most likely having to do with the fact that the iWatch will incorporate as much as 10 different sensors, designed to monitor and provide data on a number of environmental and Internet based feeds.

Apple is expected to release widely different models, with different functionalities. Some targeting athletes a fitness enthusiasts, which seems to be a higher priority for the company at the moment. Alternative models will potentially include designs appealing to a male and female audience respectively, and these might break down into more categories, which we speculate could include business users, music lovers, and more.

As the WSJ points out, the iPad was the last piece of truly remarkable technology from Apple, but that was 4 years ago, and tablets, in 2014, are a dime a dozen, unless they can double as laptops. With Tim Cook at the helm, Apple still needs to prove it can still innovate beyond mere design, and the iWatch might just be the ticket.

With Samsung and Google giving Apple a run for its money, the iWatch needs to be a winner, as it is clear that wearable technology is no longer considered a fad by the general public.

Recent market analysis conducted by IDC shows that sales of wearable devices will reach 7.6 million units in the US alone, by the end of this year, to reach 27.3 million by 2018.

Apple’s ability to dominate with the iWatch could be an indication of a new era for Apple, in which the diverse nature and range of wearable devices will be enough to get Apple to truly innovate again, with technology, and not simply with style and sleek design choices.
