The iPhone 6 is coming, here is some fun facts about the iPhone you already own!

We have covered at lengths the incoming Apple iPhone 6: a device that is predicted to blow everybody’s mind with two new sizes, lots of cool features and a tougher screen.

While we wait, here is a few useful things you might want to know about the iPhone you already own!

iPhone input tricks

  • Did you know that your iPhone has an “undo” function? Just shake your phone to bring up a menu that will allow you to undo your latest action when editing a photo or writing an email, or while composing a text message.
  • There is a faster way to end your sentence with a period: tap the spacebar twice to add a period automatically and move to a new line.
  • Not everybody loves shortened words, like “OMG”, “BRB” or “ROFLOL”! Turn your text lingo into complete sentences by creating shortcuts that automatically convert your “BRB” into “I’ll be right back”, by going into Settings / General / Keyboard / Shortcuts / Add New Shortcut.

Camera tricks

  • We have all been there: trying to take a selfie while fidgeting with the touchscreen. Did you know you can take photos using the volume buttons? Now you do!
  • What if you are trying to take that perfect shot, but don’t have a lot of time? Maybe you are whale-watching, or taking a photo while in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle. Here’s a helpful tip: hold down the Capture button while taking a photo, to get your iPhone to take a whole sequence of shots! Then go back to your pictures to select the best one.
  • Screenshots on the iPhone are as easy to take as pressing simultaneously the power button and the home button! Once a screenshot is take, it’s automatically stored in your gallery.

Siri tricks

  • Teach Siri how to understand you better by training it on how words are pronounced. Just activate Siri and say: “That’s not how you pronounce...(insert word here)”.
  • Want to know who’s flying over your head? Just ask Siri “What flights are overhead?”, to get up-to-date tracking of overhead flight numbers complete with altitude and angle, as well as a three dimensional skymap.

Email/text tricks

  • Need a list of all your drafts? Get it in no time by holding down the compose icon in your email!
  • Need Siri to read an email or any piece of text back to you? Go to Settings / General / Tap Accessibility and turn on the Speak Selection feature! After that, select any text anywhere on your iPhone, and the Speak option will appear.

Timer tricks

  • Let your iPhone lull you to sleep with your favorite playlist, or audiobook, by setting a timer that will stop playback automatically. Open the Clock app, choose the Timer button and set the timer for how long you need your media to play, tap “When Timer ends”, scroll down and choose “Stop Playing”. Goodnight!

Notifications

  • Did you know you can change the vibration pattern on your iPhone according to who is calling or texting you? Go to Settings / Sounds / Ringtone / Vibration / Create New Vibration. Tap your fingers on the empty space, just as you would if you were playing a piano, to create a new pattern to assign to a contact. From then on, your iPhone will use that vibration pattern to alert of incoming texts or calls from a specific person.
  • If you are not a fan of vibration or sound notifications, you can have your iPhone alert you by emitting an LED flash. Go to Settings / General / Accessibility, and scroll down, then turn on “LED Flash for Alerts.”

Performance

  • Want to charge your iPhone quicker? Turn on Airplane Mode! Airplane Mode automatically turns off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and any other service that might be using your iPhone’s battery while charging.
