Microsoft Windows 10's Next Chapter event on January 21st

New computers with Windows 10

On January 21st 2015, a New Chapter for Microsoft Windows 10 will be introduced to the masses. The event, hosted at Microsoft’s Redmond campus is announced with an open invitation from the official Windows Blog. From the blog entry, it’s unclear whether this event will feature the actual unveiling of the new Windows, or simply an update on its development.

“...we will talk about the next chapter of Windows 10. You’ll hear directly from senior leaders from the Operating Systems Group...” writes Microsoft’s Senior Marketing Communications Manager Brandon LeBlanc: “... who will talk about the Windows 10 consumer experience...”.

The anticipation for Windows 10 is building, especially in consideration of the fact that the new operating system will include many features users have been aggressively demanding.

What’s next for Windows 10

According to most of what we heard, Windows 10 is expected to be a truly ubiquitous platform, able to run on desktop PC’s, tablets, smartphones and other devices.

This Next Chapter event suggests there might be more, waiting to be unveiled, perhaps even a clue about pricing and update options, considering the staggering number of users expected to upgrade as soon as the new Windows is released.

It is doubtful, however, that Microsoft will run a similar campaign as it did for Windows 8, in which the company offered discount coupons to users looking to upgrade from earlier versions of Windows.

Cortana integration is definitely in the cards, as well as the ability to purchase XBOX One games.

Windows Phone

A Windows Phone app has been rumored to be included in the official release, although it is unclear whether it is simply a feature specific to Windows Phone smartphones, or something that will enable desktop and tablet users to take phone calls, similarly to what Apple has already done with OS X Yosemite.
