Microsoft Windows 10 dreaded BSOD gets more friendly

With the latest Windows 10 Preview Build 14316, the Windows team has come up with a way to turn the haunting Blue Screen of Death, into a more user-friendly feature, than it has been in decades.

BSOD Windows 10

The purpose of a BSOD is to prevent damage to a computer, in the event of hardware failure caused by defective hardware, for instance a faulty cable or flash drive, or by corrupt or incompatible software, like drivers, or corrupted system files.

The result is a most dreaded stop error, filled with information incomprehensible to a regular user.

Finally, Microsoft has come up with a way to provide more useful information on how to deal with the root causes of a BSOD.

The recent change made to the BSOD in PReview Build 14316, involves a QR code, which can be captured with a smartphone, to open a Microsoft support page where further information can be found, which may provide a lead onto what may have caused a critical stop error to occur.

Along with the QR code, a URL is also provided, for those who can type fast enough before the error info percentage reaches 100% and the system restarts.

Also, the provision of a stop code at the end of the page will remain, as part of the BSOD, as it has before this update, to provide more targeted information.

Regular users of Windows 10 won’t see the change until the Windows 10 Anniversary update this summer, while Windows Insiders will be able to test progressive iterations of the BSOD as of the latest and future builds.
