Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14271 brings more UI/UX improvements: bugs affect hibernation and Kaspersky Antivirus

Yesterday, Microsoft has released two brand new Preview Builds to fast ring Windows 10 Insiders. Build 1427 was released for desktop users, while 24167.1004 is the latest build for Windows 10 Mobile users.

Build 1427 for PCs, brings a number of visual improvements affecting the appearance and behavior of application windows. The appearance of media controls in the taskbar, such as Groove Music, has also been improved, and controls look sharper and crisper at higher resolutions.

A number of Insiders have reported the taskbar auto-hide function not responding correctly, and showing up unexpectedly on top of fullscreen applications. With this new build, the issue has been fixed, as well as a previously noted issue by Microsoft, where the setting labeled “Hide notifications while presenting” was lost after upgrading to a new build.

Pinned Win32 desktop apps disappearing from the Start menu was another little annoyance from previous builds, which has been fixed in the current one.

Not much has been said about Windows OneCore, except for improved debugging tools for Windows (Windbg, kd, cdb, ntsd), with added support for Universal apps. However, the following bugs, as reported by Microsoft, suggest a lot of work is currently underway, targeting system-specific components:

Known bugs

Insiders should be aware of at least two bugs affecting the current build.

The first one causes a bluescreen of death, when resuming from hibernation. Insiders should disable hibernation to avoid this issue, until the next build.

The second issue affects users of Kaspersky Total Security. The Internet protection suite doesn’t seem to play well with the new build, and may not function properly. On the upside, Microsoft has partnered with Kaspersky, to find a fast solution for users of the suite.

Aside from the above bugs, minor annoyances have been reported affecting the notification area (systray), as well as certain elements displayed in Microsoft Edge, like charts generated via D3.js. Finally, reports of crashes affecting QQ, have also made the list of the known issues to be tackled in the next build.
