Microsoft Game Mode to rock Windows 10 gaming PCs with Creators Update

Microsoft Game Mode to rock Windows 10 gaming PCs with Creators Update

Microsoft is currently, and officially, testing a Gaming Mode feature set to optimize PCs for different games.

While detail is scarce, one great news for game developers is that Game Mode won’t be restricted to the Xbox/Windows Store ecosystem. Any game installed on Windows 10, whether they come from Steam, Origin, or other distribution platforms, will be able to make use of Windows 10’s upcoming optimization feature.

As previously mentioned, there is no specific information about how exactly Microsoft is planning to optimize the gaming experience on Windows 10, but we could assume that the new mode will automatically find the most appropriate settings according to the available hardware. For instance, in gaming laptops with higher specs, Gaming Mode will automatically adjust settings to Ultra or Best, depending on the capabilities available, and perhaps, even adjust single settings, like bloom, reflection and refraction quality, blur, shading quality and anti-aliasing. Full-screen resolution could also be one of the settings controlled by Game Mode, especially on systems that support 4K resolution.

Windows 10 Creators Update has been long in the making, and is set to be the biggest Windows 10 update yet, with features ranging from a redesigned, more refined interface, a considerably enhanced Windows Ink experience, and substantial improvements with Cortana, and Microsoft Edge.

Some of the most notable additions for gamers, will be in regard to Windows Holographics and integration with VR hardware, such as headsets, goggles, and accessories.

Microsoft has put a lot of resources into VR and augmented reality, starting with Microsoft HoloLens. Most recently, Microsoft has also announced the release of a number of third party VR and AR headsets designed to work with Windows VR, which is already an integral part of Windows 10.

While, for the time being, Game Mode is simply being hinted at, the feature could appear soon on Windows 10 PCs for user enrolled in the fast ring of the Windows 10 Insider program.
